Oceans: Could less mean more?
Second edition of la Nuit des Idées (the Night of Ideas) in Malaysia!

Did you know that oceans cover more than 70% of the planet's surface? That marine and coastal ecosystems provide food for billions of people around the world? Or that oceans also play a major role as climate regulators? And yet, despite their relevance, our oceans are increasingly threatened by pollution, overfishing, climate change, tourism, etc. Plastic pollution, for instance, is expected to triple by 2040. So how can we do more to protect our oceans? What if doing more meant doing less (waste, pollution), doing better (decision-making), doing it together (collaborating)?
Come explore this concept during our “Nuit des Idées 2023” hosted by Alliance Française of Kuala Lumpur. Through various activities, we will reflect on how a shift in perspective can lead us to making better choices for our oceans and ourselves. You will also be able to enjoy a vibrant art installation by Hara Makers and contribute to our Wall for the Oceans and commit to adopting one eco-friendly gesture. Check out our exciting programme – and register ASAP!

More Knowledge
Enjoy a selection of short films in English and French about the oceans and the role of science in understanding and protecting these
fragile ecosystems.
Presented by Universcience, Reef Stakes and the Embassy of France in Malaysia, this film screening offers a delightful experience that
is friendly for kids and adults alike!
Let's watch these insightful videos together while enjoying complimentary popcorn!

More Understanding
Discover Ocean Hackathon with the JellyGO team, champions of marine innovation. Learn how they won the international Grand Finale in France and explore their ocean-saving app. Discover their impactful application and ways to contribute to ocean preservation, with a chance to win Ocean Hackathon goodies!

More Recycling
Plastic pollution is everywhere, and going nowhere fast - except into our waterways, soil, food, air, and bodies. The Sea Monkey Project creates ocean plastic solutions and education. They upcycle single-use plastics into long-lasting ethical souvenirs; upcycling plastic “waste” means turning trash into treasure. Embark the journey with them in exploring different possibilities of plastic upcycling, sustainability, and climate education.
To participate, please bring with you some plastic type 2 or 5 – they can be easily recognised by the triangle symbol at the bottom of the plastic product.

More Collaboration
Play Reef Stakes®, a marine-themed role-playing card game that simulates real-life stakeholder relationships, introduces iconic marine
species, and highlights threats to coral reefs. Join in the debate and decision-making to shape the future of the reef.
Suitable for participants aged 12 years and above.
