The TEF is organized by the Paris Ile-de-France CCI. At AFKL, you can only sit for them, but the tests are designed in France, and Paris Ile-de-France CCI will provide us with the correction, the final marks and the official certificates.

DELF and DALF are official French language diplomas, provided by the French Ministry of education. They measure your French language proficiency in four skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing). As with any university degrees, they are valid for life and you can mention them in your resume, provide them to an employer, etc.

TEF and its versions is a test, not an exam. They determine your proficiency in the skills you choose. Your assessed level can be different for each skill. This certificate is valid only for a set period of time (1 to 2 years).  

It depends on the test you sat for. Usually, results are sent to Alliance Française after 3 weeks (sometimes 4 to 5 weeks). Certificates are available at AFKL one to two weeks later.

We always inform you as soon as we receive the results by email (and we always send them to you by email) and as soon as we receive the certificates. These certificates have to be collected by you (please come with an IC) or by someone for you (the person has to come with a letter signed by you, with a copy of your IC and with his/her IC).

It is not possible for TEF and its different versions. 

Several tests can be accepted by French Universities (DELF/DALF, TCF-DAP, TCF and TEF with or without the writing part, etc.), but it is better if you ask directly to the University you would like to join what are its requirements, as they may vary from one university to the other.

The TEF-IRN (TEF pour (Intégration, Résidence et Nationalité)) is especially designed for this purpose.

But first, we encourage you to contact the French Embassy, where you will be explained the administrative procedure and will be able to check if you fill the conditions to apply for French nationality. Then, they will let you know which test you can sit for and what level you have to reach, according to your exact situation.

One version is especially designed for this purpose: TEF Canada. The IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship Canada / Immigration, Réfugiés, Citoyenneté Canada) has approved the TEF Canada, for anyone who wish to take steps towards permanent economic immigration or obtaining Canadian citizenship. 

The TEF is compulsory, regardless of the nationality and language of origin (French and people from French-speaking countries).

It is possible for us to organize a TEF session at other dates as the ones planned in our calendar. If our schedule doesn't match with your needs, kindly contact our Exam Coordinator for the arrangements.

You can sit again for any part of the test, but only after one month.

Please be aware that some administration will only accept one certificate in your file. It means that if you want to get a better assessment for one skill, you will have to sit again for all of them.

We encourage you to get train to the test before you sit for it – at least, take time to discover it, so you won't be surprised and will know exactly what is expected from you. Thanks to this preparation, you will be ready the D-day, you won't waste time and be efficient immediately. This piece of advice is also valid for native French speakers.

• Use the tutorials to familiarise yourself with the oral comprehension and expression sections of the TEF (in French).
• Familiarise yourself with the test format using the sample papers available in this section.
• Register for training online in collaboration with PrepMyTEF.
• Train yourself for the various Tests for Evaluating French (TEFs) using the Français 3.0 mobile application.
