Défi Inter Alliances 2026

Test your knowledge of French language and culture in the Défi Inter-Alliances Françaises and get a chance to win a trip to France!

What is it?

Here comes the Défi again: An International online contest on French culture, with wonderful prizes to win for Alliances Françaises students!

Eleven Alliances Françaises from South-East Asia (Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Bangkok, Phuket, Bali, Medan, Makassar, Semarang, Siem Reap, Cebu & Manila) are participating in a worldwide competition: their students will compete by answering questions about French culture, art, gastronomy, history and language.

Practise your French, test your knowledge, compete with your friends, have fun… and maybe proudly represent Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia in an international competition!

How & when?

The competition takes place in four stages:

Local selection : 18 March, AF Kuala Lumpur

The local selection phase organized by each of the eleven participating Alliances in South-East Asia: 20 questions via Kahoot.

The first 2 winners in each Alliance will win prizes… and join the quarter finals selection!

Local National finals : Mid April (TBC)
The local winners will then go against winners from the local selection from AF Penang !

The 2 best candidates in this round will then proceed to the regional selection for South East Asia!

Geographical zone selection: 23rd May (7.30PM, KL time)

The regional selection phase for our South-East Asia group: 25 questions for the 2 respective winners of our local selections.

The 2 best candidates will win prizes… and join the geographic zone selection!

1^st & 2^nd prizes:

participation to the regional final
a free class at AFKL (1 level)

3rd to 5th prizes:

For the regional winners:

For the Geographical Zone Final winner :
One winner per geographic zone will receive a trip to Brussels in July 2026 to compete in the International Final.
The prize includes:

Accommodation
Round-trip transport from your nearest airport to Brussels
€400 stipend

Register to the Défi Kuala Lumpur

The local competition is open to AFKL students:

✔ You are currently enrolled in French classes at a participating Alliance Française
You must be studying French at the Alliance Française KL with a minimum of 20 hours of class from 1 January to 30 April 2026
✔ You are 18 years or older by 1 July 2026
✔ Your French level is A2, B1, B2, C1 or C2 (or you’re in the process of learning it)
✔ You are not a native French speaker
✔ You are not a staff member or board member of an Alliance Française.
