Description:
Vaunay has collected together the journals and sketches of an unsung, but pioneering, traveller in the Malay peninsula of the 19th century. De Morgan came to Malaya to secure a tin mining concession and set off into the interior of Perak to prospect for a suitable site for his employers. In doing so he was probably the first European to visit the dense jungles inhabited by orang asli (indigenous peoples) whom he treated with respect. The resulting record of his travels is part adventure story, part botanical record and part ethnographical study. The Malaysian Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society
