CALL FOR MUSICIANS

Overview

Since its creation by the French Ministry of Culture in 1982, this festival celebrates musical life in all its expressions and reflects its permanent dynamism.

An international echo:

Abroad, the Fête de la Musique has grown considerably, becoming a national event in several countries (Italy, Greece, Peru, Colombia, Canada, Australia, Japan....) or, in other cases, being promoted by major metropolises such as New York, Berlin or Mumbai.

By adapting to the cultural specificities of each country, the Fête de la Musique has been able to invent itself, adapt and become an emblematic international musical event.

In 2019, more than 120 countries celebrated the Fête de la Musique.

An annual event:

La Fête de la Musique traditionally takes place on June 21: in the northern hemisphere, this date corresponds to the summer solstice, and on the longest day of the year. It was born in 1982 in France and has now spread over 120 countries. First and foremost, la Fête de la musique wants to be a joyful, inclusive, rallying and festive event.

The bases of the Fête de la Musique are:
-Promotion of social inclusion
-Democratisation of musical practices through a popular and free event.
-Promotion of a meeting point for citizens.

A reference in Kuala Lumpur:

For years now, la Fête de la musique has been celebrated in Kuala Lumpur and spearheaded by the Alliance Française of Kuala Lumpur. Be it at the AFKL, in Bukit Bintang, at The Square @ Publika or online in 2021, la Fête de la musique has always been a huge success.

In 2022, we will be back with on-site live performances - to do so, we are calling on all local and talented musicians from Kuala Lumpur to be part of the line-up (20-30 mins per group). A small gratuity will be paid to the musicians as a token of appreciation. All production and communication of the event will be the responsibility of the organisers.

La Fête de la musique 2022 in Kuala Lumpur will take place on Saturday, June 18th. Its location will be shared at a later stage.

Eligibility criteria

> Profile

Individual musicians or music groups (aged 18 and above) In the case of groups with minors, the musicians must be represented by one of their parents or legal guardian.
All music genres and levels of practice are accepted. Groups or soloists with a minimum of 6 months of trajectory, verifiable on the resume.
Applicants from nationals, foreigners, residents or visitors in Malaysia who demonstrate legal residency in the country, are accepted.
For organizational purposes, artists based in Kuala Lumpur will be prioritized. For artists residing outside the city of Kuala Lumpur: take into account that transportation and accommodation will be at their charge.
Individuals or groups who apply with musicians or performers from 2 different groups are not accepted.

Documents

All participants must submit the following documentation:
→ Repertoire of his authorship: at least 3 samples of your music (link to your soundcloud/ spotify/ bandcamp / youtube). Good quality recording with band name, genre, phone, number of songs.
→ written presentation of yourself and/or your group
→ technical rider & stage plan
→ list of group members (musicians only and possibly a technician)
→ copy of ID / passport of each member (if minor: a letter of authorization from one of the two parents or a legal guardian must accompany the copy of the minor’s ID)
→ copy of ID / passport of each member
→ any other promo materials (audio, video, images…)

AFKL Contribution

Promotion through AFKL official communication channels (newsletter, website, social media, print).
Organization of the entire event: technical, logistical and production.
Opportunity to take part in an internationally renowned musical and social initiative.
